Coming Home to the Feminine: The Art of Flowing, Not Forcing

Healing HA is rarely just about food.

For many women, it’s a mind-body process that requires addressing the underlying stressors that triggered hormonal imbalance in the first place. Psychological stress, emotional suppression, and an overly controlling mindset can all contribute to amenorrhea, even when nutrition is adequate. This is where reconnecting with your feminine energy becomes essential.

Feminine energy is about flow, receptivity, intuition, and nurturing yourself not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. When we ignore this side of ourselves, pushing only through action, productivity, and control, our bodies respond. Hormonal imbalances, exhaustion, and conditions like HA can appear as a signal that something needs to change.

I learned this the hard way. For a long time, I resisted anything that felt “girly” or emotional. I was invited to women’s circles, events, even small gatherings and I thought: I don’t have time for this… Why would I want to sit around talking about feelings or doing ‘girls stuff’? But the truth is, this is exactly what my body and mind needed to heal a side of my amenorrhea. Allowing myself to connect with other women, share emotions, and nurture my feminine side had a profound impact. It wasn’t about indulgence, it was about restoring balance.

Feminine and masculine energies are not about gender; they are archetypes we all carry within us. As beautifully explained in Lorena Cuendías’s podcast on Feminine and Masculine Energy, the feminine is intuitive, fluid, nurturing, and creative, while the masculine is directional, rational, and assertive. The balance between the two is what allows us to live with purpose and harmony.

But here’s the paradox: many women today are disconnected from their femininity. We have learned to equate value with productivity, to be “good girls,” “strong women,” “independent and efficient.” It’s completely normal to want to be productive, to achieve and to make things happen, that’s part of being human.

The problem begins when it becomes pathologic, when we start rejecting our own softness, sensitivity, and cyclical nature. When we ignore our body’s natural rhythms, silence our emotions, and refuse rest or receptivity, we create inner conflict. Eventually, the body responds, through imbalances, fatigue, hormonal issues, or even illness. We push, act, control, overachieve, and prioritize productivity above all else.

We celebrate being “independent” or “uninterrupted” by our cycles, thinking it gives us freedom. Oh gosh… I even remember telling my friends how great it was not having my period, how it allowed me to do all the things I needed to do without pause. I guess the Universe was listening very clearly, depriving my menstruation for years.

This is a perfect example of rejecting the true side of ourselves. We are designed to flow with our bodies, to embrace our cycles, our intuition, and our sensitivity. The menstrual cycle is a natural rhythm that reflects the health of our hormonal, emotional, and energetic balance. I am talking about a proper, natural cycle, not one suppressed by hormonal contraceptives or implants. By denying our femininity, our body responds with imbalances like HA, stress, and exhaustion. Reconnecting with this side of ourselves is not indulgence or weakness; it is reclaiming wholeness and honoring the natural rhythm we were meant to have.

And yes, this doesn’t concern only women, men too have a feminine side that’s been denied for centuries, shaped by a society that values strength over sensitivity. But that’s another story… maybe for another newsletter : )

For many women, the process of healing begins on the mat, learning to move with the body, not against it. For me, my happy place to reconnect with my feminine energy is during my yoga practice, when I slow down, close my eyes, and truly listen.

Instead of striving for the perfect posture, I focus on what feels nourishing.
Instead of controlling my breath, I let it guide me.
Instead of forcing myself to move, I allow movement to unfold.

So how can you reconnect with your feminine flow through yoga?
Move intuitively. Choose practices that open the hips , the home of our creativity and emotions and allow energy to move freely.

Here’s a simple, grounding sequence you can try:

  • Low Crescent Lunge – From mountain pose, step one leg back and lower your back knee to the floor (place a blanket under it if needed). Keep your front knee over the ankle, square your hips, engage your belly, and reach your arms overhead. Breathe deeply for 10 breaths, then switch sides.

  • Pigeon Pose – From downward dog, bring your right knee forward behind your right wrist. Adjust your right foot closer to the groin or further away if comfortable. Square the hips, fold forward, and hold for 10 breaths. Repeat on the other side.

  • Butterfly Pose – Sit tall with the soles of your feet together and your knees wide. Fold forward gently over your hips, keeping a long spine, and breathe deeply.

  • Happy Baby – Lie on your back, bring your knees toward your chest, and hold your lower legs or outer feet. Let your spine relax on the mat, breathing softly.

Hold each posture for at least three minutes to allow the fascia, the deep connective tissue to release. If you wish, add some Yin music, dim the lights, and close your eyes. Feel your breath soften, your body melt, and your mind quiet down.

This is where healing begins, not in doing more, but in doing less, in allowing.
That’s the feminine way: flowing, not forcing.
